Arun Singh, The One

Arun Singh, The OneDoug’s next “Outstanding Server” is Arun Singh who works at “The One” restaurant in the Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi, India (www.lemeridien.com/newdelhi).

When sitting down to eat at a restaurant, 99 times out of a 100, in an instant you can tell if you have a first-class waiter or not. And unfortunately, most of the time you don’t. During our recent trip to India we were very fortunate to eat at one of the restaurants in our hotel in Delhi, and even more fortunate to have Arun Singh as our server. In our opinion, he definitely was one of the top 1%!

So, what makes Arun Singh the Fryett Consulting Group’s next Outstanding Server? For us, it was very obvious – attentive customer service and a willingness to go that extra mile (kilometer in India) was written all over his attitude. We entered the restaurant between “normal” meals hours, or in other words, between menu changes. We had noticed something that we would like to eat that appeared on the evening / dinner menu but at 3:30 in the afternoon they were only “willing” to serve food from the luncheon menu. And then Arun stepped onto the scene. Without any hesitation on his part at all he instantly made a decision to “convince” the chef that his customers wanted to have specific menu items and he was not going to settle for anything less. Well, to our great delight, we were able to have the exact menu items that we wanted – no questions asked. No fuss made. He took charge and was able to totally satisfy his customers.

But our experience with Arun did not start and stop with what we had to eat. Throughout our entire dining experience in Arun’s restaurant he was extremely attentive to our needs – he would check back in with us on a regular basis (and was not overly intrusive) to see how we were enjoying our meals and if there was anything else he could do for us. A simple rule of good serving but rarely polished and practiced by the majority of servers in this industry. And he did all of this and more with a smile!! What a treat for us!

Well, I guess we are not the only ones who recognized Arun’s talents for being customer centric. Since returning from India 10 days ago I received an e-mail from him via LinkedIn that he has been promoted. Congratulations to a true professional who we believe will go very far in this industry. We look forward to seeing Arun again in India or wherever his professional growth takes him.
